"A Grand Miscellaneous Selection of Music" - Original 1831 Broadside
Original broadside from a grand concert at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane on March 11th, 1831, under the direction of Sir Henry R. Bishop. The broadside lists the complete program, which included arias by Handel, Haydn, Mozart, and others, a violin concerto by Giovanni Battista Viotti, and overtures by Spontini, Cherubini, and Rossini. The performers included the noted soprano Mary Anne Wood (née Paton), violinist Antonio James Oury, and the young organist Samuel Sebastian Wesley, who would go on to become an important composer. The broadside also announces that Handel's Messiah, with "additional accompaniments by Mozart," will be performed due to popular demand on the following Friday.
