Busch, Adolf. (1891 - 1952) & Serkin, Rudolph. (1903-1991)

Original Photograph

Original doubleweight photograph of the legendary violin and piano duo in recital ca. 1930's. Photographed by Foto Spreng of Basel. Some slight corner creases and smudges to the edges, but overall in fine condition. 9.5 x 11.75 inches (24 x 30 cm).

As a young man, Serkin began his concert career in Berlin, living with Busch's family. Together, Busch and Serkin formed the core of the Busch Chamber Players, performing around Europe. The rise of the Nazi regime and the outbreak of World War II led Serkin and the Busch family to emigrate first to Basel, and then to the United States. Busch and Serkin were co-founders of the Marlboro Music School and Festival in Vermont. Serkin married Busch's daughter, Irene, and had seven children, including the pianist Peter Serkin. (14268)
