Autograph Letter to Magdeleine Greslé mentioning de Falla and Arbos

Autograph letter from the virtuoso Spanish classical guitarist to the singer Magdeleine Greslé, regarding a disagreement with critic Adolfo Salazar and also mentioning Manuel de Falla and Enrique Fernández Arbós. November 30, 1926. Segovia reports that he is furious with Salazar: "I had to make a great effort myself not to heap insults - that is, truths - on him." After promising to confront Salazar during his next visit, he continues to mention that he is not enclosing a letter from Falla, and that he has lunched with Arbós and discussed "the whole affair and its protagonists." 2 pp. with original envelope. Light ink stain at the foot; overall in fine condition. 5.25 x 8.25 inches (13.4 x 20.9 cm).

Translated from the French, in full:

"Here is the letter from Salazar, dear friend. I had to make a great effort myself not to heap insults - that is, truths - on him. The letter that I tore up was, all in all, worthy of being addressed to him, but not of being written by me. Besides, I tore it up as soon as I learned that I was coming here, accompanied by his disgusting friend, around December 18. I will do everything possible to see him, and I promise you that he will have an indelible memory of this encounter. And if I miss him, I will take advantage of my concert at St. Sebastian to make a trip to Madrid.
I am not sending you the letter from Falla because I will need it in London. Tell [him] that you saw it and that will be sufficient.
I will tell you in entirety the idea that we all have of Halfter, which people have just told me. It's worthy of him.
Goodbye then, dear friend. Send me a line at the Hotel Van Dyke, Cromwell Road, London S.W.7.
The Arbos had told me they were coming to town. I was supposed to leave here with them. I went to see them at the Gare du Nord, we had lunch together and talked about the whole affair and its protagonists! Goodbye. I am leaving at midday.
Best regards to Marguerite [...] Andres. 30.XI.XXVI." (13906)
