Pembaur, Josef. (1875-1950)

Two Autograph Postcards sending New Year's wishes

A pair of autograph postcards from the Austrian pianist and composer and his wife to Eli von Philipp, wife of Bavarian Generalkonsul Hans von Philipp. Dated January 1, 1941, and November 11, 1947, the postcards send New Year's wishes and greetings to the family, one reporting that Pembaur will play five piano pieces composed by his father on Munich radio. In very fine condition, each 5.75 x 4 inches (14.8 x 10.5 cm).

Josef Pembaur, son of composer and music director Josef Pembaur, Sr, studied and taught at the Königlichen Akademie der Tonkunst, Munich, before becoming a teacher of piano at the Konservatorium der Musik in Leipzig. Named a professor in 1921, he returned to Bavaria. He also toured extensively as a pianist, winning the Ibach-Preis in Berlin. He was once heard by Thomas Mann while playing a concert; Mann wrote in his diary that Pembaur played "excellently, with the most heartfelt delight." (13807)
