Autograph Letter to the Music Publisher Augener
A brief autograph letter from the celebrated Austrian pianist and composer, student of Mozart's son (F.X.W. Mozart), Simon Sechter and Franz Lachner. Jugenheim, August 31, 1872. To Herr Augener [music publisher George Augener (1830 - 1915)] he writes (translated from the German): "Many thanks for the cheque; if you will do both of us the pleasure of a visit, please send me a telegram -- although I am actually always at home." Folding creases; otherwise in fine condition. 4.5 x 7 inches (11.4 x 18 cm).Pauer moved to London in 1851 and from the outset, his playing was highly admired there. In London, he developed a series of concerts, with copious programme notes, that illustrated the development of keyboard music from 1600 to modern times; in later years he lectured on this and many other topics. For five years, he was on the staff of the National Training School for Music (1859–64) and was later recruited in 1876 as principal Piano Professor in the newly-formed Royal College of Music, he was also associated with the Music Faculty at University of Cambridge. His son, Max von Pauer (1866-1945), was also a world-renowned pianist. (13803)
