Heavy overall toning; otherwise in very good condition. 11 x 15 inches (29 x 38.4 cm). 11 pp. An uncommon copy of the American composer's Introit (1965-66), an orchestral piece written in honor of the great conductor Pierre Monteux, this copy from the estate of Monteux's daughter, Nancie Monteux Barendse. Worldcat records only one copy, and none in the US.

Monteux had frequently performed Creston's works, especially his popular Symphony no. 2, helping to make Creston one of the most widely performed American composers of the 1940's and 50's. Written shortly after Monteux's death, the piece demonstrates Creston's great appreciation for the older man; in a 1956 letter to Monteux, Creston had written: "The great service rendered my music does not come from the mere presentation, but from the lucid and sincere exposition as evidenced in your conception of it."
