Creole Red Beans and Rice - Printed Recipe Sheet with Autograph Notes

Printed sheet of recipes from the great Satchmo and his wife Lucille, with two handwritten annotations, apparently in the hand of Lucille: "Pop's Favorite Dish" beside the recipe for creole red beans and rice, and "By Mr. & Mrs. Myron Cohen" beside the matzoh ball soup recipe at the foot. Some uneven toning and a paperclip mark; overall in very good condition. 8.5 x 11 inches (21.7 x 27.9 cm).

Armstrong was greatly interested in health and bodily functions, advocating the use of laxatives to control weight. He would publish his ideas in a book called Lose Weight the Satchmo Way, and also appeared in advertisements for his favorite herbal laxative, Swiss Kriss. His "Satchmo slogan" was "The more you shit, the thinner you git" -- and even in the context of relatively appetizing recipes, he mentions, "Twenty minutes [after the meal] -- Bisma Rex and Swiss Kriss."
