Hemingway, Ernest. (1899 - 1961)

Two Press Photographs in Spain

Two interesting press photographs relating to the great American novelist, short story writer, and journalist.  Hemingway is seen in an iconic portrait photograph in Spain in 1959, photographed by Larry Burrows; and with bullfighter Luis Miguel Dominguin and actress Ava Gardner in 1954. These later reprint photographs have been used in a newspaper office and are stamped on the verso with dates from the 1980's to 1990's. In fine condition, each 5 x 7 inches (12.7 x 17.9 cm).

Gardner and Hemingway's friendship began in the 1950's, when she starred in his The Snows of Kilimanjaro and The Sun Also Rises. While visiting him in Spain, she became a fan of bullfighting, leading to a relationship with the star bullfighter Luis Miguel Dominguin. "It was a sort of madness, honey," she later wrote. (13732)
