Engraved Portrait

Engraved half-length portrait of the French Baroque composer and organist who was in the service of King Louis XIV and was one of the most important composers of grands motets, shown leaning on his right hand with manuscript paper and a pen in front of him. Engraved by Mathey after Santerre, with the caption: "Mich.l Richard  de Lalande / Sur-intend.l de la Musique du Roi / Né à Paris, le 15 Décembre 1657. Mort le 18 Janvier 1726." Engraved in 1777 for the publication "L'Europe illustre, contenant l'Histoire Abrégee. Des Souverains, des Princes, des Prélats, des Ministres, des grands Capitaines, des Magistrats, des Savans, des Artistes, & des Dames célebres en Europe" by M. Dreux du Radier, vol. 6.
