Pair of Doll Shoes made by George Sand for Aurore Sand

A remarkable and intriguing relic from the eminent French author, born Amantine-Lucile-Aurore Dupin, better known by the masculine pen name she adopted early in her career. An early feminist, she also earned a footnote in musical history as the longtime romantic companion of pianist/composer Frédéric Chopin. 

A pair of handmade doll's shoes, apparently made by George Sand herself for her granddaughter, Aurore Sand (1866 - 1961).  The shoes are constructed of two slightly different colors of thin textured brown leather, with metal eyelets; one shoe is complete with a ribbon fastening, the other is missing the ribbon. The shoes have been sewn together with a small stitch of white thread, which could be removed. 2 inches (5 cm) long.
