An original carte de visite photograph of the American author, poet and editor who worked with several notable American writers including Edgar Allan Poe and Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. Photographed by George G. Rockwood of New York and on the original mount, with a caption on the verso: "This Photograph is COPIED from another picture, and must not be taken as a sample of our work direct from life."
