[Spanish & Latin American Music and Culture]

Fantastic Early-1900's Signed Postcard Collection with Many AMQS's

A fantastic collection of 57 signed postcards from Latin American, Spanish and Italian musicians, actors, and other cultural figures, collected ca. 1905 in Buenos Aires. The collection, on a variety of artistic and portrait postcards, some hand-colored, includes many beautifully detailed autograph musical quotations and some amusing inscriptions. On the verso, most of the postcards are addressed to the (sister?) collectors Ramona Imaz Otaño and Patricia Otaño; many of those presumably earlier addressed to Patricia have been changed to Ramona's name, suggesting some swapping or perhaps a little jealousy!

The figures who have signed the postcards include singers Lina Cavalieri (1874-1944) [facsimile signature on hand-colored card], Adele Stehle (1865-1945), Andres Perello de Segurola (1874-1953), Carmelita Bau Bonaplata (1870-1911) and Alice Zeppilli (1885-1969); composers Napoleone Cesi, Giuseppe Frugatta (1860-1933), Luigi Romaniello (1860-1916) (two postcards), Spyridon Samaras (1861-1917), Arthur Napoleão dos Santos, (1843-1925), Amintore Galli (1845-1919) -- a particularly elaborate AMQS with a long inscription -- Goffredo Cochi, and Jole Gasparini; violinist Leon Fontova (1875-1949); actresses Nieves Suarez, Clotile Dumas (1882-1969), and Virginia Fabregas (1871-1950); and painter Ricardo Lopez Cabrera; among many others!

Postcards each 3.5 x 5.5 inches. Overall in fine to very fine condition, with the occasional slight smudge or wear to the edges. A very lovely collection. (13524)
