Born in Russia, the Surrealist and Neo-Romantic artist Eugene Berman is known for his imaginary landscapes and architectural conceits and is also recognized for his Baroque-like stage set designs for the likes of the Metropolitan Opera.  He provided the set and costume designs for the ballet with music by Vincenzo Tommasini, after Niccolò Paganini, and choreography by Sir Frederick Ashton which was produced by Denham's Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo, New York, 1939.
