Delaney, Tom. (1889-1963) [Hegamin, Lucille. (1894-1970)]

"Jazz It Blues" - Original Sheet Music

New York: Palmetto Music Co.. 1921. Scarce early original sheet music for Tom Delaney's hit "Jazz me blues," this edition published with the cleaned-up title "Jazz it blues" - and with the lyrics changed to avoid the connotations of the line "And if I don't get my jazzin' then I don't feel right"! Interestingly, although the cover and lyrics read "jazz it," pp. 4-5 still have the title "The Jazz Me Blues" at the foot. The cover features an image of Lucille Hegamin and her band, Harris' Blues and Jazz Seven (later to be known as the Blue Flame Syncopators). Hegamin, here called "the Palmetto songbird," was the first to record Delaney's hit in 1921.

5 pp. Toning, a stain to the back cover, and slight tears to the spine, but overall in very good condition. 9.5 x 12 inches (23.8 x 30.9 cm). (13285)
