1956 RCA Dinner Invitation with Telegram from the Conductor

Original invitation to a 1956 RCA dinner honoring David Sarnoff, hand-addressed to the great Italian conductor. Together with a telegram dated September 13, 1956 from Toscanini to Sarnoff, sending his regrets and best wishes.  "Am deeply sorry that I cannot be with all the other people... but you know that with all my heart I will be near you and I wish you many more years of activity in that industry which you have practically created and brought into splendid blossom." 

Sarnoff, who led the radio corporation RCA from 1919 until his retirement in 1970, was also a pioneer of television, developing the NBC network. Among his achievements was the founding of the NBC Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Toscanini, which broadcast regular radio concerts between 1937 and 1954. Sarnoff went to great lengths to create a first-rate orchestra, offering high salaries to the musicians and building a large new studio. The ensemble made many recordings and undertook two tours.
