Original press photograph of the great Soviet violinist, in concert dress and holding his instrument in a relaxed pose. Undated. Note on the back reads: "Allied Arts Corp. presents Leonid Kogan, the eminent Soviet violinist at Orchestra Hall, Sunday aft. October 16 at 3:30." Very slight crease to the lower right corner; otherwise an excellent image in very fine condition. 20.3 x 25.9 cm."After David Oistrakh, Kogan was considered the foremost Soviet violinist, and one of the most accomplished instrumentalists of the day. Kogan’s approach, however, was more objective, less emotional than Oistrakh’s. His tone was leaner, his vibrato tighter, his temperament cooler and more controlled. His intonation was pure and his technical mastery absolute. He showed his versatility in concert series ranging from the complete Bach solo works to the Paganini Caprices."
