Piano Concerto no. 1 - Autograph Musical Quotation

Elegantly penned AMQS from the great German virtuoso pianist and composer, called the "legitimate heir of Liszt" (Martin Krause.)  Sauer has written eight measures from the first movement of his Piano Concerto no. 1 in E minor, marked Allegro patetico.  The quotation is dedicated to a Fritz Bauer and signed, Berlin, December 2, 1910.  On a small card which has been cut on the diagonal, else in very fine condition.  11.5 x 9 cm.

Sauer, one of the most distinguished pianists of his generation, was a pupil of Franz Liszt who toured extensively, as well as composing, teaching, and editing scores.  His compositions include two piano concertos, two piano sonatas, and concert etudes, and he also edited the complete piano works of Johannes Brahms.  As head of the Meisterschule für Klavierspiel at the Vienna Academy, he taught many leading pianists of the next generation.   (12900)
