Rubinstein, Arthur. (1887–1982) [Alexander, Haim. (1915–2012)]

"I love your mazurka with the charming quotation of one of my favourite Chopin's" - Typed Letter Signed

TLS from the acclaimed Polish American pianist to Israeli composer Haim Alexander, thanking him for a composition dedicated to the pianist.  Rubinstein writes, "...you can imagine my joy when I received [your pieces].  I love your mazurka with the charming quotation of one of my favourite Chopin's.  Your piece is written in a masterly fashion and I find its form excellent..."  Dated Paris, November 24, 1974.  Letter creases and slight wear to the edges; otherwise in very fine condition.  20.8 x 26.6 cm.

The Israeli composer Haim Alexander emigrated from Germany before World War II and became a pianist, composer, and one of the founders of the Academy of Music in Jerusalem.  His works include orchestral, chamber and piano music, choral works and songs for voice and chamber ensembles.  In quoting Chopin, he must have especially hoped to please Rubinstein, of whom the New York Times wrote, "Chopin was his specialty... it was [as] a Chopinist that he was considered by many without peer."
