Original Signed Playbill of "Dance a Little Closer"

Original playbill from the 1983 musical Dance a Little Closer, signed by librettist and lyricist Alan Jay Lerner, and with nine further signatures of cast members including Lerner's wife Liz Robertson in her first Broadway role.  Dated April 23, 1983, during previews for the new musical.  The actors who have signed are: Len Cariou, George Rose, Liz Robertson, Brent Barrett, David Sabin (not listed on the playbill; he succeeded Reuben Singer during the previews), I. M. Hobson, Don Chastain, Jeff Keller, Cheryl Howard, and Joseph Kolinski.  Folded open to the first page with slight damage to the spine; otherwise in very fine condition.  14 x 21.5 cm.

Dance a Little Closer, a collaboration between librettist and director Lerner and composer Charles Strouse (best known for Annie), was based on the 1936 play Idiot's Delight and set in the "avoidable future," in an Alpine hotel where the guests find themselves in the midst of a potential nuclear Armageddon. It was an early musical (along with La Cage aux Folles) to feature an openly gay couple as characters.  It was widely panned by critics and closed after only one performance in May 1983. (12795)
