Autograph Musical Quotations

Two AMQS on recto and verso, by the legendary Belgian violin virtuoso Martin Pierre Marsick and the well-regarded Catalan mezzo-soprano Maria Gay. Marsick has penned one measure of music, signed and dated the quotation September 16, 1904. Gay has written three measures with the text "Una mattina da fresca" and attributed it to her husband, Catalan composer Joan Gay. She has signed Geneva, November 6, 1904.

On a rigid oblong album leaf with a large floral motif on recto and verso. Some wear on the right edge; otherwise in very fine condition. 25 x 17.7 cm.

Marsick was one of the great touring violinists at the end of the 19th Century and taught many important violinists including Carl Flesch, Jacques Thibaud and Georges Enescu. Gay enjoyed an international career, singing at La Scala and the Met, and was particularly known for her interpretation of Carmen. (12709)
