Chemin-Petit, Hans. (1902-1981)

Manuscript sketchleaf from the opera "Die Rivalinnen"

Densely written manuscript sketchleaf from the 1969 opera "Die Rivalinnen," by the celebrated Berlin choir conductor and composer of choral and instrumental music. Four measures written in pencil over nine staves on recto and verso, identified in ink possibly in the composer's later hand as "Skizze fur Oper 'Die Rivalinnen' (1970)". The first measure of the recto is numbered 26, and the verso 28. The music is scored for five voices above two stave groups of unidentified instrumentation. The music is in 12/8 time and includes complete dynamic markings, slurs and rests. Left edge has been cut out of an album; otherwise fine condition. 16.2 x 13 cm.

Chemin-Petit was the conductor of the Philharmonischer Chor Berlin for 38 years and the recipient of several German cultural awards. "Die Rivalinnen," composed in 1969 on a story by Giovanni Loredano, was not premiered until 1984, after Chemin-Petit's death. (12699)
