[Stravinsky, Igor. (1882–1971)] Snowdon, Tony. (1930–2017)

Igor Stravinsky, 1970

Original 1970 photograph capturing the Russian composer, pianist and conductor in a somewhat defensive pose with hands shielding his musical score open before him. 9.5" x 13". Camera Press/Snowdon credit and other stamps on the verso. Small crease to the upper right corner, tiny nick to the lower left; otherwise a crisp image in fine condition.

Lord Snowdon was married to Princess Margaret, sister of Queen Elizabeth II, from 1960 to 1978. He is also a world-renowned photographer and documentarian. At first, his photography focused almost exclusively on design, fashion and theater, but he soon managed to establish himself as a successful portraitist through his photos of British royals, including Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh in 1957. In the 1960s, Lord Snowdon landed a job as the picture editor of The Sunday Times magazine and by the 1970s, his work had placed him among England's most well-respected photographers. (12650)
