[Beatles] Starr, Ringo. (b. 1940) [MARTIN SHARP (1942-2013)]

Live Give Love - 1967 POSTER FROM THE COLLECTION OF RINGO STARR

London: Big O Posters Ltd. [1968]. 30 x 20 inches, 76 x 50 3/4 cm. Striking metallic poster printed on foil, the design by Martin Sharp, a psychedelic adaptation of Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel fresco The Creation of Man (1511-12). High art meets high art in this glistening piece of Sixties psychedelia, a companion piece to Sharp's more famous Wheels of Fire album cover of the same date for English rock band Cream. The two works, as printed in black ink on silver foil-coated card, present Christian and Eastern religious icons in a manner accessible to a Sixties audience familiar with the effects of hallucinogenic drugs such as LSD and marijuana. The text of Live Give Love reflects the dominant themes of peace and love which were at the heart of the counterculture and hippie movement between 1966-8, reaching their peak in the United States and United Kingdom during 1967's Summer of Love. The present example of the famous poster is from the collection of former Beatle, Ringo Starr. Some light creases to the edges, difficult to image given the relective nature of the foil, but in overall fine condition. (12533)
