Britten, Benjamin. (1913–1976)

Early Signed Photograph & Autograph Letter saying "it is difficult to do justice to my classic features!"

Signed original 8 x 10 inch photograph of the young English composer, conductor and pianist, inscribed and signed in 1941 at the age of 28, to Charles V. Foreman and sold together with a 1-page ALS ("Benjamin Britten") on the letterhead of Dr. Mayer, M.D. (Britten and his partner, Peter Pears, lived with the Mayer family during their American stay), stating that (in part) "I have been most horribly busy since I got back from my very pleasant stay in the middle-west" and that "I enclose a photo - not a very good one I'm afraid, but it is difficult to do justice to my classic features." He goes on to note that "I enjoyed working with you all so very much...tell them I hope to back in Chicago with you all when this war is all over. I expect to leave for England in a week or so." Both items in fine condition, some very minor wrinkling to the photograph which also seems to have been somewhat light exposed in the upper half. (12403)
