Signed Photograph with Autograph Musical Quotation - "Die Tote Stadt"
A pristine early sepia postcard photograph of the young composer, signed in the blank lower margin with a four-bar AMQS with holograph title and lyrics from his operatic score based on symbolist Georges Rodenbach’s phantasmagoric novel Bruges-la-morte. Composed by Korngold when he was just 23, its tremendous success heralded him as one of German opera's most promising talents.The photograph, a 1/2-length seated portrait by Madame d'Ora, shows Korngold in profile with head turned toward camera. On the verso is an ANS, signed "EWK," to Miss Katz, in German, sending thanks and warm greetings. 4 1/4x3 1/4 inches (image), 5 1/2x3 1/2 inches overall. Very fine. As nice as it gets! (12370)
