A rare copy of the main theoretical work by the German composer, lawyer and music theorist, from a Hessian line of Bachs. His later career included appointments as organist and Kantor at the small central-German village of Tann and the present treatise was once extremely popular and widely circulated. "As a composer and theorist [he] represents in a derivative way a style similar to that of Johann Christoph Friedrich Bach." (Christoph Wolff, "The New Grove Bach Family," p. 354) (12277)
