Honegger, Arthur. (1892-1955)

Signed Portrait to Richard Hammond

Vintage albumen photograph of a pencil portrait of the great French/Swiss composer by Fernand Ochsé, signed and inscribed in ink by Honegger to the composer Richard Hammond (1896 - 1980). 5 x 7 inches. Chipped at corners, a few creases, otherwise very good.

The quiet and intimate image of the composer is by his close friend Fernand Ochsé, the "man who contributed more to my career than certain masters...[he was a] musician, painter, literary figure, stage designer who has had the most happy influence on my development. He was an incomparable friend to me, whose memory I cherish in profound gratitude. His diappearance during the terrible days of the Occupation remains one of the deepest sorrows of my life. Since that time, I have never heard one of my new works without wondering: 'What would Fernand have thought of it?'" (as quoted in Geoffrey K. Spratt, "The Music of Arthur Honegger," p. 32-33) (12241)
