Autograph Letter regarding his Complete Debussy Recordings
Interesting autograph letter from the German pianist. 1 page, signed "Walter Gieseking." 29 April, 1953. To Francois Eudel in Paris, with the envelope postmarked from the Festspiele, Wiesbaden. Usual folds, else fine.In French, apologizing for delayed reply, giving some details of his recent concert tour and stating that "I can tell you that the recording house Columbia (Pathe-Marconi) intends for me to record ALL the works for piano by Debussy, including the Etudes. Unfortunately, the Etudes are of a degree of difficulty a little disagreeable! It will be a project to execute them without too many wrong notes - but I will attempt to do my best. I can't tell you when I will be able to do these recordings, primarily because the same house wants to put all the complete works of Mozart on discs. But I will show your letter to the directors of Columbia, and maybe it will serve to move things along."
Certain creators and re-creators become synonymous and it is unlikely that there has ever existed a more perfect connection than that between Debussy and Gieseking. Gieseking recorded the Debussy Etudes in 1954. (11912)
