Babilons Piramiden is a continuation of the story of Mozart's Die Zauberflöte [The Magic Flute], written by Emanuel Schikaneder, the impresario, dramatist, actor, singer and composer who wrote the libretto for Die Zauberflöte and who took the role of Papageno in the original performances. The music is by Peter Winter (Act 2) and Johann Gallus-Mederitsch (Act I). It was first performed, like the Magic Flute, at Schikaneder's theatre, the Freihaus-Theater auf der Wieden in Vienna and the present score was published by Schikaneder himself at that location. The beautifully engraved score features 12 illustrations from the opera. (11852)
