A fine copy, boldly inscribed on the title page to the director of the Théatre-Royal at Anvers: "à notre collaborateur M. Pontet / souvenir bien amical / J. Massenet. Mars / 87." First page of music with repaired tear, lacking wrappers, else fine. Score nicely bound in modern full brown cloth.

The opera was first performed at the Opéra-Comique in Paris on January 19, 1884 with enormous success and has remained Massenet's most popular and enduring opera. (11838)
