1977 Bayreuth Programs inscribed to Colin Davis from Wolfgang Wagner

Imposing bound set of 1977 Bayreuth festival programs (62 + 71 + 95 + 124 + 102 + 78 pp), signed and inscribed in blue ink on the front page of the first volume ("Tannhauser") by Wolfgang Wagner "Colin! / mit herzlichen dank fur die leibarbeit in Bayreuth / Wolfgang Wagner / 26. VIII. 1977." From the estate of the renowned British conductor Colin Davis. Tape binding starting to crack, else fine.


Davis was the longest-serving principal conductor in the London Symphony's history, having first conducted the group in 1959. Known for his interpretations of music by Sibelius and Berlioz, Davis devoted a large portion of his career to opera. Among his most notable operatic performances was Wagner's "Tannhauser" at the Bayreuth Festival in 1977. The production was filmed and is available on DVD. (11604)
