Pastel on paper, signed in chalk 'S. Garf' (lower left in the image), matted under passe-partout (unframed), image size 15.3 x 19 inches (38.8 x 48.2 cm.).

Born in Amsterdam, the Dutch painter Salomon Garf was acknowledged already in his lifetime. Member of the art society Arti et Amicitiae and prize-holder of the Willink van Collenprijs, he worked in the artists' village of Laren and Amsterdam before the German occupation. Salomon Garf was deported and murdered in Auschwitz in August 1943. 21 works by Salomon Garf are in the collection of the Jewish Historical Museum. (11398)
