Malibran, Maria. (1808-1836)

Autograph Letter to "my little pussycat"..."I come when least expected."

Rare autograph letter signed ‘"M.F. Malibran.’" 4 pp. including integral address leaf with small seal tear, 8vo. 27 July, 1829, to Madame de Bouteilles in Paris. In French, translated: "My dear little lady, I am quite sure that you are not expecting to receive a little package from me or a scrap of letter, but that’'s the way I am. I come when least expected, or rather when I am not expected at all - and so, here I am! I come to say a few words to you before my departure for Brussels next Sunday. I plan to stay there two weeks, so if you want to write to me there I shall be at the Hotel Bellevue. I hope to recover from all my fatigue and regain by degrees the health which I lost as a result of an illness caused by my sorrow. Farewell, my little pussycat, I embrace you most tenderly and wish you a good arrival, health and prosperity. Best regards to your kind husband, and with friendly greetings, M.F. Malibran’."

Maria Malibran, creator of Donizetti's Maria Stuarda and works by Bellini and Mendelssohn, was one of the most celebrated singers in history, whose early death at the age of 28 contributed to her status as a figure of legend. (11214)
