Vieuxtemps, Henri. (1820-1881)

Autograph Letter to Moscheles

Autograph letter from the great violinist to pianist Ignaz Moscheles, arranging to meet to play together. 1 page, "35, Weymouth Street, Portland Place", 10.5.1841, to "Mon cher Monsieur Moscheles" [Ignaz Moscheles, 1794-1870] in London "...je serai heureux de faire un peu de musique ce jour là avec vous."

Vieuxtemps was one of the most imporant musicians of the 19th century. As one of the greatest of all violin virtuosos, he was compared to Paganini by both Schumann and Berlioz. As a composer, he was an important reformer of the concerto and in this regard, according to Grove, "can be compared to Liszt." (11164)
