Elgar, Edward. (1857–1934) & Menuhin, Yehudi. (1916–1999)

Signed Union Jack

A superb and visually striking 11 x 8.5 inch colorful Union Jack page, signed boldly by the beloved English composer and also by violinist, Yehudi Menuhin. The signature of Elgar was obtained by a Westminster chorister at an Empire Day Rally in Hyde Park, London and the encounter is described (including how he had to shake Elgar to wake him out of his sleep so the page could be signed!) in an accompanying letter. The signature of Yehudi Menuhin was obtained some years later during the 1960s, the connection being that the 16-year-old Menuhin was the first to record the Elgar Violin Concerto, with the composer conducting. Some chips and stains and support/mounting remnants on the verso but overall very presentable. (11018)
