Autograph letter from the famed French pianist, composer, and teacher, inviting a male friend to play music at a soirée hosted by Marmontel. Undated. Translated from the French, in part: "Thank you for your kind attention. Of course you are welcome at my soirée, and it will be a great pleasure to hear your works..." 1 p. Folding creases; overall in fine condition. 4 x 5 inches (10.4 x 13 cm).

A pupil of Zimmermann and Le Sueur, Marmontel succeeded Zimmermann at the Conservatoire de Paris in 1848 and retained his post there until his retirement in 1887. His reputation as a teacher was outstanding and his pupils included Albeniz, Debussy, d'Indy, Diemer, MacDowell, Pierne and Plante.  (10939)
