[Chrobak, Rudolf. (1843–1910)] Prager, Olga. (1872–1930)

Original Portrait

A stunning large, original portrait in profile, of the pioneering Austrian doctor, professor and director of the Frauenklinik in Vienna, an important gynecologist whose name is associated with "Chobak's operation," and with the "Otto-Chrobak pelvis" protrusion. Charcoal and pencil on canvas. 18 x 16 3/4 inches, framed to 25 by 23 1/2 inches.

A remarkable portrait by the Austrian painter who in 1897 founded the art school for women and girls ("Kunstschule für Frauen und Mädchen"), which later became the Vienna Women's Academy (" Wiener Frauenakademie"). A student of Adalbert Seligmann , Prager is especially known for her large scale group portraits of the Viennese medical college professors ("Das Professorenkollegium der medizinischen Fakultät der Universität Wien, Wien 1908-1910") in which Chrobak, can be seen in the center foreground in the same pose.
