Shostakovich, Dimitri. (1906-1975)

Symphony No. 15 - Signed LP

1972 Russian pressing (Melodiya CM 03245-6) of Shostakovich Symphony No. 15, performed by the Moscow Radio and Television Symphony Orchestra conducted by the composer's son, Maksim Shostakovich. Signed and inscribed in blue ballpoint pen on the front cover next to his photograph by Dimitri Shostakovich and dated six months after the premiere, 15 VI 1972. Edges of the cover quite worn, LP seemingly in fine condition and quite attractive overall.

The Symphony No. 15 in A major (Opus 141), Dmitri Shostakovich's last, was written in a short period during the summer of 1971 in Repino. He was 65 and had had a heart attack, was of poor health and the Symphony is understandably overshadowed by intimations of mortality. It was first performed in Moscow on 8 January 1972 by the All-Union Radio and Television Symphony Orchestra under Maxim Shostakovich. (10619)
