Original Autograph and Program from Opening Week Performance of H.M.S. Pinafore

Rare original complete program, 4 pp, from the very first production of H.M.S. Pinafore which opened at the Opera Comique on May 25th, 1878. Undated, this program can be dated to the beginning of June before Rutland Barrington was replaced while ill. In fine condition, 15 x 24.5 cm.

Together with an amusing autograph signature of the English comedian, writer, composer, actor, and singer, creator of nine of the G&S roles, including Sir Joseph Porter in H.M.S. Pinafore. He has playfully inscribed a 10.5 x 8.5 cm page "yours Faithfully Geo. Grossmith," adding a staff and two eighth note Gs which he labels below "Gee Gee." (10570)
