Original Press Photograph taken from "Testimony"

Press photograph of the great Soviet composer at work, taken from the controversial memoir "Testimony," which was published in October 1979. The memoir, "as related to and edited by Solomon Volkov," was released four years after Shostakovich's death and purported to reveal Shostakovich's anti-Soviet views, although these were hotly contested by Soviet authorities and the veracity of the memoir is still in question. Original press clipping and stamps on the verso, dated October-November 1979. Slight wear to the edges; overall in fine condition. 5 x 7 inches (12.7 x 17.8 cm).

Printed on heavy paper, cut by hand, measuring 19.2 x 13.1 cm. "...Man versammelt sich in der Wohnung des Verstorbenen im Schwarzspanier-Hause Nr. 200, am Glacis vor dem Schottenthore. / Der Zug begibt sich von da nach der Dreyfaltigkeits-Kirche / bey den P. P.
