The edition (except the "Production Notes") is bilingual, with title page, text underlay and most of the front matter in English and German. London: Boosey & Hawkes. 1948. Choral score to Britten's 1948 cantata Saint Nicolas, signed in blue ink by the composer and by Peter Pears at the head of the first page of music. Small upright folio. 33 pp. B. & H. 16343. Spine reinforced with paper, wrappers and a few pages with small repairs to edges, bound with a later decorative cord. Overall in very good condition, contained in a custom blue cloth folder. The unique creative partnership between these two artists may be claimed to have been without parallel elsewhere in musical history. Read More...

The opera starred Peter Pears as Robert Devereaux, Earl of Essex, and Joan Cross as Queen Elizabeth I. The large souvenir program features color illustrations on the front and back covers and a gold tassel on the spine. Matted, with Heger's signature to lower margin.  The location and the persons are identified in the upper margin, in Charles's hand; however, Sellschopp is misspelled "Schellschopff."  Oblong format, 9 x 11 inches (22.7 x 28 cm).  Upper margin stained and slightly bumped; else in fine condition.  Read More...
