A very rare early signed carte de visite photograph of the important violinist, dating from 1861, when the sixteen-year-old Auer was beginning his studies with Joseph Joachim. A scarce AMQS from the important violinist and influential pedagogue, teacher of Elman, Heifetz, Milstein, Zimbalist, Parlow, Schumsky and many others. Auer has penned the first three measures of his Romance in F major for violin and piano (op. 4), which was recorded a few years later by the young Heifetz in 1911. Signed and inscribed to the British violinist and composer "Miss Eva Spalding" (1882 - 1969), and dated London, July 8, 1908. On a small calendar leaf dated May 29. Early original program from a recital by the great violinist at Queen's Hall in Westminster, London on Saturday, October 31st, 1908 at 3 o'clock. Program included Spohr's Violin Concerto No. 9 in D minor, Handel's Sonata in E major, Wieniawski's Fantasia on Airs from Faust, an Aria by Bach, a Joachim arrangement of a Hungarian Dance by Brahms, and an Auer arrangement of an Etude-Caprice by Paganini. Unusual AMQS from the renowned American-Russian violinist, neatly penned on an oblong clipping of printed music paper, inscribed "For Miss Harrie Johnston Oscar Shumsky, Rye, N.Y. Aug. 69" followed by musical quotation of two and a half measures, notated on two staves, and captioned, "one of the greatest utterances to involve a string player (Beethoven Str. The article "Schubert Ecstasy" published in TIME on Dec. 3, 1928, records in detail the many celebrations worldwide that marked the Schubert Centenary. The present collection records the efforts of the Centennial's director, Frederick N. Sard, to organize this “International Celebration of Masterworks from Song to Symphony,” and consists of 80 letters addressed to him from a wide spectrum of prominent musicians and supporters.
