Rare early photograph of the 23-year oldcomposer seated at the piano, by Kadel & Herbert News Photos. Clip on the verso with text "George Antheil is probably America's youngest composer. He has been conducting his own compositions for the past two years for the Berlin Philharmonic. Antheil was born in Trenton, New Jersey and has been studying aboard for the past four or five years." 8 x 6 inches (20 x 15 cm.). In fine condition.

An uncommon AMQS from the American avant-garde composer, pianist, author, and inventor who co-patented a 'Secret Communications System' with actress Hedy Lamarr in 1941. AMQS on an off-white card imprinted "Collection of Bernard J. Klug." Antheil pens two bars from one of his works, signing below in bold ink, "October 29, 1954, George Antheil." In fine condition. 5 x 3 inches (12.7 x 7.6 cm).

The issue includes a "Tribute to Van Vechten" (pp.776-777) by the Editor, James Lyons: "Evviva Carlo," on the occasion of his 80th birthday, the final page of which features a recent photograph taken of C. V. V. by Paul Mascriber, above which Van Vechten has signed and inscribed "Dear Paul, this issue of this magazine in June 1960 was issued to honor my 75th birthday Much Affection, Carlo / June 16 1960 New York."
