London: W. E. Hill & Sons. 1891. Containing many particulars obtained from authentic sources and now published for the first time. Illustrated with three coloured plates by Mr. Shirley Slocombe. 31 pp. Tall 8vo. Publisher's blue cloth titled in gilt. Heavy glue remnants and toning on internal pages, with block largely detached from spine; shelf wear; several ownership signatures and stamps; overall good.

Edwardian Album of Postcard Photographs

Wonderful collection of 35 Edwardian and Georgian postcard portraits, mostly of violinists but also including some composers, conductors, and other musicians of the era, all tipped into pages of a green souvenir album with a raised four leaf clover design to the cover.  The majority are postcard photographs, though a few are decorated with illustrations or caricatures. Individuals represented here include Oskar Back, Ole Bull, John Dull, Spencer Dyke, Marie Hall (2), Lady Hallé (2), the Hambourg Brothers, two postcard photographs and a halftone photograph of Joseph Joachim, Jaroslav Kocián, Fritz Kreisler, Jan Kubelík (6), Pablo de Sarasate, Emil Sauer & Willy Burmester, an etching of Antonio Stradivari, three postcard photographs and a caricature of Cesar Thomson, Auguste van Biene, Antoine van Heck (2), Henri Vieuxtemps, Franz von Vécsey, Henryk Wieniawski, August Wilhelmj, and Eugène Ysaÿe, together with one unidentified individual.  Separation to album spine interior, general signs of wear, overall in fine condition.  Postcards generally in fine condition and most not postally cancelled or otherwise marked.  7.75 x 10 inches (19.7 x 25.4 cm.).

Original photograph of the string quartet signed by first violinist and founder Henri Temianka, second violinist and original member Gustave Rosseels, cellist Lucien Laporte, and violist Charles Foidart.  Small vertical tear to lower margin, else in fine condition.  8 x 10 inches (20.3 x 25.4 cm.).  Together with program for performance in the Seattle area from 1954–55 season, with an unusually vague listing of pieces.  The concert was to include "One of the Great Quartets of Beethoven, Mozart or Haydn, two sections of "Selections from the Heart of the Quartet," and "A Quartet from the French or Romantic Period."  Vertical crease, else fine.  6.25 x 9.5 inches (15.9 x 24.1 cm.).
