Autograph letter from the great pianist about a visit to the Bösendorfer piano factory. Vienna, 6. Nov., 1967. 1 page. In part, "I went to the Bösendorfer factory to see with my own eyes what happens there. So far everything in the production remains exactly as it was, hammers, wood, etc. - Only the smallest size grand is now also produced in the US with different hammers which I don't know. So I ordered a set of hammers and shanks for you and told them to send you the bill." He closes by sending thanks "for the enclosed review, and congratulations for your successful season. Please give my regards to the Hoffmans, Miss Margolis , and Isobel Honet." Honet was fixture of the Chicago, IL music scene around this period and the letter appears to be directed to someone in her circle. Signed "Alfred." Fine. 8 x 11 inches; 20.5 x 27 cm.
This is the only autograph letter from Brendel we have ever handled or seen on the market. Especially interesting in that he was known to work closely with concert technicians to ensure his pianos were well-monitored and maintained.
