Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, Felix. (1809–1847). Octet for Strings. Op. 20. A Facsimile of the Holograph in the Whittall Foundation Collection.. Washington, D.C.: Library of Congress. 1976.
Folio. 80 pp. of facsimile + 8 pp. of commentary. Introduction by Jon Newsom. Gold-stamped purple cloth boards. Brand new, sealed in plastic.
Mendelssohn wrote the famous Octet in 1825 (at age sixteen!), but made substantial revisions before publishing it more than six years later. As the introduction to this volume explains, the autograph score is of special interest, for it allows comparison between the earliest known version of the work and the composition as published in its final form.
