Rare issue of the daily newspaper. Broadsheet. 4 pp. (unpaginated). Contains an unsigned article on p. 2, titled "Beethoven," that publishes a letter, dated "Vienna, March 6," from the recently deceased composer (March 26, 1827) to an unnamed "eminent professor in London" in English translation. The letter is claimed to be "the last he was able to write." 23.25 x 17.5 inches (59 x 45 cm). Brittle and split at folds, else fie. 

The recipient of the letter is George Thomas Smart (1776–1867). The German original of the letter is accessible on the website of the Beethoven-Haus in Bonn (also as facsimile), where it is numbered 2271. From the letter, as translated in The Times: "Alas! up to the present day, I see no hopes of a termination to my dreadful malady; on the contrary, my sufferings, and wit them my cares, increase. On the 27th of February I was operated upon (tapped) for the fourth time..."

The article is printed in very small font. An enlarged photocopy is included.
