Eastwood, Clint. (b. 1930). Early Signed Photograph from his FIRST YEAR OF FILM MAKING.
Signed promotional photograph of the American actor (later also director, producer, etc. and mayor of Carmel-by-the Sea, Calif.). By Universal pictures, copyright dated 1955. Inscribed to Paul McMahon. 10 x 8.25 inches (25.4 x 20.6 cm). In fine condition.
The early date is intriguing: Eastwood's first four films, all produced by Universal, were released in 1955. This portrait was apparently taken and distributed to promote the completely unknown debut actor. As Eastwood was credited in one of the four films only (Francis in the Navy), a connection with that release seems likely.
From the collection of Paul McMahon, a critic, photographer and artist who worked for more than 13 years touring with Marlene Dietrich as the icon’s stage manager, announcer, dresser, secretary and escort, and later spent 25 years as an arts and entertainment reviewer and photographer with Gay Community News, Esplanade, Tommy’s Connection, The Mirror, Bay Windows and other publications.
