[Gone with the Wind ] Plunkett, Walter.(1902–1982). Gone With the Wind: Walter Plunkett Signed Limited Edition Portfolio.

Limited edition suite of Gone With the Wind’s costume designs from the prolific costume designer and Academy Award winner who worked on more than 150 projects throughout his career in the Hollywood film industry, including King Kong and Gone With the Wind. Exceptional limited edition portfolio consisting of the complete set of six color 16 x 20 prints of Plunkett’s costume designs for Gone with the Wind, numbered 22/1000, each signed in the lower border in pencil, “Plunkett.” The images are all full-length depictions of the concepts, showing luxurious gowns for Scarlett O’Hara and the last a dapper suit for Rhett Butler. Contained within the large original portfolio envelope, with an additional plate featuring a complete list of the many films for which Plunkett designed costumes. Folio measures 20.5 x 16.5 inches (52 x 42 cm). Folder somewhat toned, prints generally very fine with two being somewhat faded from light exposure and with scattered light foxing marks. Overall very good. Together with a biographical brochure on Plunkett, inscribed from the artist to "Ralph  - Just another item for your Plunkett collection. Walter." 

Provenance: Gift of GWTW costume designer Walter Plunkett to Ralph Hodgdon and Paul McMahon, a critic, photographer and artist who worked for more than 13 years touring with Marlene Dietrich as the icon’s stage manager, announcer, dresser, secretary and escort, and later spent 25 years as an arts and entertainment reviewer and photographer with Gay Community News, Esplanade, Tommy’s Connection, The Mirror, Bay Windows and other publications. He and his husband were close friends of Plunkett and built an important GWTW collection, including many original designs by Plunkett and (according to Plunkett) the most comprehensive collection of GWTW film stills ever assembled.
