Lerner, Alan Jay. (1918–1986). Signed Photograph.
Vintage double portrait of the American lyricist and librettist with his long-time musical collaborator, composer Frederick Loewe (1901–1988), both seated at a piano. Signed and inscribed by Lerner to Paul McMahon; Loewe did not sign.  10.25 x 8 inches (25.8 x 20.6 cm).  Edges very slightly worn, else fine.

The Lerner-Loewe collaboration, which lasted from 1942 to 1960, produced three classics of musical theater—My Fair Lady (1956), Gigi (film version, 1958; stage version, 1973) and Camelot (1960).  They teamed up once more for a film adaptation of The Little Prince (1974); while the film flopped, the soundtrack has found recognition.

From the collection of Paul McMahon, a critic, photographer and artist who worked for more than 13 years touring with Marlene Dietrich as the icon’s stage manager, announcer, dresser, secretary and escort, and later spent 25 years as an arts and entertainment reviewer and photographer with Gay Community News, Esplanade, Tommy’s Connection, The Mirror, Bay Windows and other publications.
